I've had some questions from readers interested in taking the North Slope Training Cooperative class on their own (see link on my site for complete info about this required course). I'd wait until mid-May or later to complete this training. A revised Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) will be rolled out soon and the NSTC class is being updated to reflect the new handbook.

Students who take the course before the update will need to take refresher training to stay current. Remember, your employer will provide you with both NSTC and refresher training at no cost - it is not necessary to take this class on your own. People who do so are hoping to get a leg up on the competition.

I asked the NSTC program director if the refresher training would be available online. The Cooperative is working to provide this option but it isn't a go yet. Keep an eye on the NSTC website for the latest information.
