Slope Jobs–Welders, Documentation, UT/RT, Logistics, Plumbers, Housekeepers/Cooks, Valve Techs, etc. February 14, 2010 |
| Hi, I've got some good news and some bad news from the slope…
First the bad news. For the last 5 years, ConocoPhillips has been working to secure permits that would allow them to expand west onto their leases in the National Petroleum Reserve – Alaska (NPRA).
They had negotiated agreements with the local Native landowner as well as with the North Slope Borough and the State of Alaska. The holdup? Waiting for approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Earlier this month the corps finally made a determination. They denied the permit. ConocoPhillips is appealing this decision.
How does this potentially affect you? COP estimates this multi-year project will create 400 new jobs during the buildout as well as many permanent jobs upon completion. The plan was to begin construction this year. The project is now on hold pending their appeal.
The Petroleum News posted an excellent article regarding this issue which you can access here:
Now the good news… ExxonMobil's Point Thomson project is moving along as scheduled. The amount of work that has been completed in the last year on this new development is astonishing – but there is much, much more work to be done.
A member of ExxonMobil's management team told me recently that they expect the current workforce to expand from 200 to 600 (mostly contractors) to meet their needs. They anticipate this hiring to take place 2010 – 2011.
I was also told, "…and Mary, this is only the beginning." ExxonMobil has big plans for Alaska. Bring it on! Remember, to apply for a position you’ll need to submit your application/résumé directly with the company advertising the opening. You cannot apply for a job through my website.
If asked where you heard about a job opening, please mention my website. Thanks!

Adams & Associates has this position listed under Anchorage, but when you read the posting it says:
